Seok Cheol Ji
Seok Cheol Ji(지석철) is a Korean visual artist who was born in 1953. Several works by the artist have been sold at auction, including 'Beyond the Fence of my Dream. Seok-Cheol Ji, Professor, Painting Department, Hongik University. Graduated from Department of Painting, Hongik University. 1983 Awarded 'Seonnam Art Prize' at the 3rd Korean Art Critics Association Award1992 Awarded 'Grand Prize' at the 8th Seoul International Print Biennale
The absence of reality, the reincarnation of memory Ji Seok-cheol's work has reached a series of countermeasures that have dealt with cushions in the 1980s; It originally originated in the search for the Illusion in everyday objects, but it was developed in an attempt to restore the world of slowly forgotten memory. This is the cushion and mini-chair car he has enjoyed.
In the 1980s, when he was dealing with cushions, his intention was to make real cushions as objects. It depicts the material and time journey of a cushion as an existing object by reproducing the light, shadow, or torn, gaping gaps and faded facial expressions that can be maintained in the physical state. But the mini chairs of the '90s are meant to portray the' absence of the many people who have gone past this land, the empty chairs that someone has left and left ', as the writer mentions, rather than being treated as a chair as an existing thing. However, when I saw his prints and objects that often deal with mini chairs, I felt that there could be such small chairs as well, and I felt that they might be something that I could see in the Little Kingdom of the dwarves.
Yet another difference in the feelings of the present is that, as in the past, rather than affirming the absence itself, by restricting the masses and higher realities to those absent, the absent ones are restored as if they are realistically present. These attempts are believed to show a section of human nature that dreams of the resurrection of the extinguished things.
