On May 10, 1957 in the era of former Urawa city, the Saitama prefectural art museum which will be the predecessor predecessor opened as the first prefectural art museum on the other side of the lagoon (the stage of the Urawa painter's success). Although it was used as a venue for the Saitama prefectural art exhibition, the exhibition room of the Saitama Kaikan which was newly built in 1966 played the role as it became small due to the increase in the winning works. The prefectural art museum which lost the main role is effectively closed after it was used at the Urawa municipal museum building hall and Urawa civil engineering office building office building and it became the management office of Bishouma Park and then dismantled by rebuilding It was done.

However, as the exhibition room at Saitama Kaikan became too small, modern artworks were collected in Saitama Prefectural Museum in Omiya Park, so the voice of "a full-fledged art museum in Urawa" was raised and Saitama prefecture has a collection of works We decided the construction plan of a new museum which will be newly constructed, and in Saitama prefecture modernity (Kita Urawa Park) which was established at the site of Saitama University (formerly formerly Urawa High School) which moved to November 3, 1982 (1969) It opened as a museum.
