Indonesia - Nigeria Biennale Jogja XIII 2015, Yayasan Biennale Yogyakarta
Held concurrently with the 60th anniversary of Bandung Conference, Biennale Jogja XIII – Equator #3 (2015) had Nigeria as a partner country. Curated by Wok The Rock (Indonesia) and Jude Anogwih (Nigeria). Rain Rosidi, BJ XIII artistic director, Wok the Rock and Jude Anogwih paints the Indonesia – Nigeria relationship in intriguing contradictions: disunity and unity, disagreement and agreement, at the same time. Hence the theme ‘Hacking Conflict’.
The activities in BJ XIII were in line with the vision of Yayasan Biennale Yogyakarta (YBY) to establish concrete efforts in structuring and redefining the ideas of internationalism and offering alternatives to relations between countries in the world stage, made unbalanced by a history of colonialism and Cold War.
Held concurrently with the 60th anniversary of Bandung Conference and provided the framework of Biennale Jogja, H, Biennale Jogja XIII – Equator #3 (2015) had the spirit of Bandung.
It confirms how our past is part of our identity, but looking forward to the future and building new narratives based on the now is equally important.

Within this framework, the Indonesian-Nigerian relation was not viewed in terms of mere differences and similarities.
What’s more constructive is to see how both explore the potentials in the differences and similarities to initiate post-colonial movements.
In practice, the artists worked to reflect their dynamic daily lives and frame them in artistic and cultural practice, and to encourage audience participation as part of this reflection.
