Feyhaman Duran
Feyhaman Duran (d 17 September 1886, Kadıköy, Istanbul, Turkey - May 6, 1970 Istanbul) is a Turkish painter and calligrapher.
In the Turkish Painting Art, he is considered to be the first and most important representative of the portrait art. He is particularly famous for his portraits of Atatürk and İnönü.
In 1886 he came to the world in Istanbul. His father, Rüsamet Emaneti (Customs officer) Süleyman Hayri Bey. She lost her mother at a young age. His father fulfilled the will of his wife and registered his son in 1895 at the Galata Palace Humayun Mektebi, now called Galatasaray High School. Here, painters Sevket Dag, Tevfik Fikret and Vicen Arslanyan Efendi'nin student. At school he was attracted by his paintings with pen and tina ink, then with oil paintings and especially he succeeded in Hüsn-ü Hat, the Fine Writing course.
In 1908 he entered Bab-i Ali as a clerk after finishing his school days. In the same year Hüsn-ü Hat was appointed as a teacher and graduated from Galata Palace Humayun Mektebi and gave this lesson to his teacher Tahsin Bey. The Egyptian prince, Abbas Halim Pasha, went to Paris, entering the student group he had sent to Europe with his choice of successors in various parts of the fine arts. "
I was an art teacher at Galatasaray High School, and I offered to make a lady picture I knew one day. Me: 'I am old, what will happen to be official? Instead of that little girl, make the picture of the child! ', He gave a small girl a picture of his child. I made this an official portrait. I did not know the child. Later I learned that this was the fourth daughter of the famous people of the time, Prince Abbas Halim Pasha. Pasha, on this painting, the other five daughters and some acquaintances got more pictures, I got the appreciation, so I was sent to Paris to learn by themselves and all my expenses. By this means, I have become a happy turning point in my life.
Feyhaman Duran, who saw "Art Education" in Paris from 1911 to 1913, enrolled in Jean Paul Laurens Workshop in Academie Julian, where young Turkish painters who had been in Paris for the same year also continued. He was close to the Impressionism trend that emerged in this order.
He returned home when World War I started. Since 1916 Galatasaray exhibitions regularly participated in every year. He took part in the exhibitions of the Ottoman Painters Society. Working in the Harp Magazine, he made "War Paintings". Prof. at the first Galatasaray Exhibition. Dr. He received the "Silver Medal" and the Zikr-i Cemil Prize with his portrayal Akil Muhtar.
In 1919 she was brought to the Teacher Training School of "İnas Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi" (Girl Academy of Fine Arts) "Usul-ü Tersimé".
In 1922 the student married Güzin Hanım. In 1923 he was elected as a board member of the Turkish Painters Society. In 1926 the Industrial-i Nefise Birliği was the managing director of the Association, which received the name of the Fine Arts Association in 1929, until the end of his life.
After the closing of İnas Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi, the merger of Girls and Boys Industry-i Nefise Mektepleri was concluded. In 1927, Usul-ü Tersim was assigned to the School of Industry Nefise Mektebi who gave mixed education.
It was sent to Gaziantep in 1938 as part of the dormitories organized by the Republican People's Party. Feyhaman Duran, who returned with ten works from here, was called to Ankara in January 1939 to perform the portrayal of Ismet İnönü together with İbrahim Çallı and Ayetullah Sumer.
Miniature paintings for the Maritime Museum, paintings for the Topkapı Palace together with his wife in the 1940s. His friend Sami Yetik designed a three-volume book cover called "Our Painters". Ibrahim Çallı and Sami Yetik gave painting lessons to the Vezneciler at the workshop in Zühal Stationery Store.
He retired in 1951. He donated the house of Beyazıt, which he continued to work in his retirement, to Istanbul University as a museum. He died in Istanbul on 6 May 1970.
